FAQs

Q. What will the class consist of?
A. Weekly classes will actually be rehearsals for the end of semester performances. The students will learn music, choreography and scene work for their final performance(s). The rehearsal process is infused with theatrical exercises and techniques showing students how to perform at their best onstage not only in the Broadway Bound productions but in any other future performances in which they will become involved.

Q. What should the students wear?
A. For weekly classes, each child should wear comfortable, appropriate clothes.
FOOTWEAR REQUIREMENTS:
– At Southern Village Club, please remove shoes
– At church space, please wear closed toed shoes
– At all stage/performance spaces, closed toed shoes.
– No flip flops, please!

Q. Where are your classes held?
A. Broadway Bound classes are held in 2 locations. The Company Troupe and Musical Theatre 101 series are held in the Southern Village Clubhouse: Southern Village Clubhouse, 601 Brookgreen Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. And, Showstoppers series classes (Monday & Saturday) are held at Christ United Methodist Church: Christ Church – Southern Village Bldg 101, Conference Room, 800 Market Street, Chapel Hill, NC.  Please note this location is not at the physical Church but at the offices next to the church. Maps available at http://bwayboundnc.com/about-us-2/class-locations/.

Q. What if classes are cancelled?
A. Class schedules will be updated on the website and Facebook page. Usually a scheduled day off from class will be noted well in advance; however, if there is inclement weather or an emergency, I will contact everyone via email and make a note on the web page and Facebook.

Q. Do we need to let you know if our child is going to be absent from class?
A. We ask that you make every effort to attend all classes; however, we completely understand that illness or conflicts will arise upon occasion. Please send an email as you are able notifying of the absence so we can plan class accordingly. We can not pro-rate for personal absences.

Q. My child is shy. Will she/he have to sing by her/himself?
A. If your child is part of the Showstoppers or Musical Theatre 101 series, there is no pressure to sing or even speak by themself; however, your child will be encouraged and expected to perform as part of the main group. This is an excellent opportunity for shy children to come out of his/her shell as it is a safe, non-competitive performance environment and the other children will be performing the same material.

Q. My child has a lot of theatrical experience. Will she/he learn anything new in Broadway Bound?
A. Absolutely! Even the veteran performer will enhance his/her theatrical skills. The skilled performer would be a good leader and role model for the other younger/less-experienced performers while simultaneously learning the team effort aspect of performing. Also, those with more experience will be given more challenging material or opportunities in which to grow.

Q. Will my child have a solo?
A. We want every performer to learn what it means to sing a solo or speak a line in this safe environment. While most performers will have a solo (if they want one) we assign the one they get. We work to fit the “part” to the performer based on their vocal range, personality and level of challenge needed. Please be patient as it takes us time to find the right fit and your performer’s solo may not be assigned until later in the semester.

Also, we discourage “diva-like” behavior. Having a solo is a privilege and generally not one that is automatic in the world of theatre. Please accept your solos graciously while still working as hard on the ensemble work.

Q. What about performances?
A. These are the BEST part of Broadway Bound….finally getting a chance to showcase our learned skills and strut our stuff! Performances are held at either Carrboro High School or Culbreth Middle School. We have two to three rehearsals at each space to get acquainted with the stage. There will be a small admission fee ($5) for the show in order to defray the cost of facility rental.

Q. Are there additional costume fees?
A. It is always my goal to have no extra fees except for the cost of tickets and optional items like DVD’s, headshots and dance shoes. Each performer will be required to provide some basic costume items, hopefully that you already have at home. All extra props and costume pieces will be paid for and will remain property of Broadway Bound.

Q. How can I get in touch with you?
A. I welcome open, positive communication about your child’s progress. I can easily be reached by email at erin@bwayboundnc.com or on my cell 919-636-2216. Email is the best way to get in touch with me. I prefer phone use for issues that need discussion or “I’m running late to dress rehearsal” kind of calls.

I will always send emails and update the website regarding rehearsals, performances and costumes.
